Module 3 · Check 3.5

Check: stages, profiles and evidence

Six Harbourline scenarios. Choose an answer to see straight away whether it is right, and why.

Lesson 5 of 6About 5 minutes

Each question is a short scenario drawn from lessons 3.1 to 3.4. Choose the best answer.

Question 1

Every time a Northlight Financial milestone is reached, Account Management in Hartford sends Billing and Revenue the client’s acceptance, the purchase order number and the billing contact. There is no agreed date, so details arrive whenever Rachel Kim’s team gets to them. Which stage best describes this habit?

Account Management routinely supplies what Billing needs, but timing is not yet aligned, so it is Contribution rather than Coordination.

Question 2

Milestone details now reach Billing by the 25th of each month. But whenever Northlight disputes a milestone, Rachel and Emma Novak argue afresh about who should handle it. Which stage is this interface at?

Timing is habitually aligned, but there are no shared rules for disputes yet, which is what Cooperation would add.

Question 3

At a planning session, a Harbourline director says: “We’re basically a C4 organisation, so our target should be C5 everywhere.” What is the best response?

Stages describe habits at individual interfaces, so the useful view is a profile matched to need, not a single label or a blanket target.

Question 4

Suppose that before one release last month, Kasia Wójcik in Kraków rang the Pune Service Desk to walk them through the change, and the release went smoothly. Has the release-notes interface moved to a higher stage?

The stages describe routine habits, not a single good week, and release notes still normally travel by email when someone remembers.

Question 5

Harbourline has time to improve one interface this quarter. Which is the best use of that effort?

Release notes are important and recurring yet still run as unreliable communication, so that is where structure is under-engineered; the other two add structure where it is not needed.

Question 6

Service Transition says it collaborates brilliantly with the Kraków integration engineers during go-live. Fiona Grant wants to know whether this is C5 or C6. Which finding would show C6?

C6 rests on evidence the organisation keeps when people move on, not on goodwill or more meetings.
