Where Structured Collaboration comes from.
Structured Collaboration grew out of improvement programmes in organisations across technology, healthcare, government and financial services. The same problem kept appearing: capable people, working hard, let down by the connections between them.
The person behind it
Alex McDonnell.
Alex McDonnell is a master practitioner in Lean operational excellence and organisational design, and a management consultant who works inside organisations, not just advising them, until the new way of working is running.
Structured Collaboration comes from more than fifty years of building, leading and improving organisations. Alex held senior executive roles at Ericsson, where he helped set up its original software development centre, and at Dell and Eircom. He has founded, scaled and successfully exited several businesses, starting with Technodisc in 1984. He has led improvement programmes in more than seventy organisations across technology, healthcare, government and financial services, typically improving operational performance by 30–40%.
He wrote Who Designed Your Organisation?, which introduced Concurrent Management, and developed the Agile Business Execution Canvas®.
He has taught as a guest lecturer at Syracuse University, the University of Limerick, DCU, TU Dublin and DIT. He holds an MSc in Strategic Quality Management and an MBA from the University of Limerick, is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and completed MIT Sloan’s executive programme in Business Dynamics. He has also served as a non-executive director of Ask Jeeves Europe.
